Welcome to our Massage Therapy Coursework

...for graduating students and renewing licensed massage therapists...

We are glad you're joining us. We offer an online MBLEx course for massage students and we offer continuing education for licensed massage therapists.

Preparation for our coursework

  • For our Continuing Education coursework we're currently offering 2 different courses in Ethics, 3 hours each. Once finished with the study, you'll be required to pass a multiple choice test to gain your certificate.
  1. The first introduces you to a concept called "Hypnagogic Hallucinations and why as massage therapists you need to know this term". In this course we introduce you to this term and how this trauma can occur.  We discuss how to manage your client experience, what to do to document this or other traumas that present themselves in the treatment room.  And finally, we discuss why establishing trust through professionalism and protocol is so important in our profession.
  2. A second offering is a course called "Let's talk about Sex", in this course we reinforce protecting your client, yourself and your practice using the tried and true term called Boundaries.  This course gives language that could be helpful in response to actual grievances, misunderstandings and blurred boundaries.
Have fun with either continuing education course and check back often for additional online ce coursework not found on big platforms.

  •  With Your MBLEx Study Guide we'll do a simplified refresher on those sciences and everything else that’s listed within the MBLEx content outline.  I’m sure, just like me,  the amount of science you had to study to get here surprised you and now that you’ve finished school, you have the MBLEx to hurtle. With Your MBLEx Study Guide, we can do this together.

Frequently asked questions about the MBLEx

You’ve got questions about the MBLEx. We'll share the answers of what we know.

What is the MBLEx?

The Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) is the test massage therapists take in order to get licensed.  In addition to passing the MBLEx and a state board approved Massage School, the applicant must also apply to their state board for Licensure.  Currently 48 states recognize the FSMTB MBLEx and include it as a requirement for licensure.
The MBLEx is an entry level examination.  This means the questions are limited to entry level core curriculum that all massage therapists need to know to do their job safely and effectively. This MBLEx ensures that beginning massage therapists meet or exceed the minimum standards of knowledge to provide safe, competent massage serves to the public.

When will I know if I passed the MBLEx?

You'll find out immediately following the exam.  The proctor prints out the results and hands it to you.  The test report will tell you Pass or Fail.  If you fail, the report will give you a Good, Borderline, Poor outcome next to the content area of the exam.

Where can I find more information about the MBLEx?

The Federation of Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) developed and maintains the MBLEx.  The FSMTB has 43 state members.  Any information you need to know, you can find on their website and supporting documentation they provide.

Can you tell me the important stuff I need to know about how the MBLEx?

  • The MBLEx will cost you $265 dollars to test.
  • The testing center may charge another $20 to process your schedule request by the testing site.
  • The testing sites are offered by Pearson VUE.
  • Your school will have to verify that you are ready to test.
  • Once you've paid and your school verifies, FSMTB will send you an Authorization to Test, this form goes with you to the test and tells you the start date and expiration date, you have 3 months to schedule..
  • You can take the MBLEx before graduating.
  • The overall pass rate is 73%.
  • The test is a computer adaptive test (CAT), do some research on this type of test to become familiar.
  • If you fail the test, you have to wait 30 days and pay again.
  • The test is 100 questions in just under 2 hours (110 minutes).
  • You have to answer ALL the questions.
  • Take with you 2 valid (non-expired) IDs with you; 1 must be a photo state issued ID.  The other with matching name.  The name you use to sign up must match your IDs.
  • You'll be given a locker to leave IDs, keys, jacket, drink, purse or anything else you bring with you.
  • You will scan in and out of the test.
  • Once you pass the MBLEx, you will never have to take it again.
  • Good Luck.

It typically takes a week to complete these visual study guides.  Then another week to study this paired down material.  Along with successfully completing your massage therapy program, you should be ready.  If you didn't study while in school and barely passed, you'll need more time just to complete the study guides, let alone study them.

No.  We have no inside connection to FSMTB or the MBLEx test.  We have years of experience preparing our students.

Do I have to take the MBLEx?

Not every student seeking licensure has to take the MBLEx.  Check with your state licensing board.
